ENV 1080 - Introduction to Environmental Science


Environmental science is the study of the environment and solutions to environmental problems. As an interdisciplinary academic field, it lies at the intersection of physical and biological sciences. This course introduces students to fundamental concepts in physical and ecological processes that shape our environment and the role that human civilizations have in shaping the environment. Emphasis is placed on examining solutions to current environmental problems including aspects of soil, water and air pollution, ecosystem services, biomimicry, environmental toxicology, living machines, phytoremediation, bioremediation and green chemistry. Central to this course are semester-long student projects.

Prerequisites & Notes
There is a lab fee. This course is offered every spring.
